Off to Japan!
Follow me on insta & snap as I land in Tokyo then head out to live in a Japanese farm house for a 2 week shibori indigo workshop. This is no ordinary workshop, it’s on a indigo farm in the mountains, and taught by a Master dyer. I want to thank my former Otis College of Art and Design professor, Sumi Lee, for inviting me on this adventure. Now I invite you, to follow along via insta & snap, getting an inside look into this hidden magical world. It wasn't until my new passport arrived last Wednesday that it sank in. We’ll be 2 days in Tokyo with our workshop group, then to the small village of Fujino where we will stay in a 150 year old farmhouse to learn generations old shibori dye techniques Take a picture with snapchat of the image below to add me.
We were assigned many hours of hand stitching homework before flying out. Above is the 'Mokume' or woodgrain technique before it gets dyed, in the photo below, the texture from all the stitching is visible after it's dyed up.
Open Studio and DIY Workshop
As part of Los Angeles Design Festival, we're hosting an open studio for the very first time! Come meet a curated group of LA's most exciting independent designers, shop their collections, participate in a maker's workshop, and enjoy complimentary food and drink. Other LA Design Festival events are hosted by LACMA, Dwell Magazine, Croft House and many others. Hope to see you at my studio, it’s only 1 block from the Ace Hotel in Downtown LA!
