This garment is part of a collaboration with artist and designer Jennifer Parry Dodge. Jennifer dyes fabrics in the back yard of her Highland Park Los Angeles home using a variety of natural and synthetic dyes. These include, rust, indigo, and procion, among others. Fabrics are dyed in small batches, and treated as a canvas to create an overall balance and variation of colors. All of the pieces in this collaboration are limited edition, or one of a kind. Pattern and layout of the clothes has been carefully engineered to display beauty of dye. Jill designs the garments, and cuts each one individually. The result is a one of kind dress or top.
“There’s beauty in symmetry,” says Dodge. “But what interests me more are things that are a little off. I love the imperfections, the accidents, and realizing that some ‘mistakes’ aren’t really mistakes at all. To me a perfect pattern doesn’t seem alive.” ~ from One King's Lane interview
